Suomenlinna sea fortress lighthouse modernized to led technology

The historical Suomenlinna sea fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located at the entrance of Helsinki’s harbor. The Suomenlinna lighthouse is special as it is mounted atop of the church. A new modern LED light source has recently been installed into the iconic light tower, which is familiar to many Finns as well as to millions of tourists visiting Finland every year.

Sabik Marine has developed together with Trinity House the new Sabik Lighthouse Unit, which replaces traditional lamps inside historical lighthouses. It extends the service life of traditional lighthouses without expensive and complicated re-work or decommissioning activities. It can be installed easily inside existing Fresnel optic lens. Additional benefits are option for remote monitoring, lower maintenance costs, and possibility to transition to solar or other renewable power sources. All while maintaining the traditional appearance, existing optics, rotating beam, flash characteristics and heritage value of traditional lighthouses.
